For Anjali
If we had waited, Anjali
You would never have come.
Angel of our deliverance.
And so we drove
A long, long way
Through dusty tracks
Asking directions to your Home.
We chose you
From a parched garden
Of sickly flowers
Where love was thinly
Spread
Like a blob of butter
Over a giant piece of bread
What else could the poor Sisters do?
You are part village
Part city.
Your whitewash exterior
Hiding lasting pastel shades.
Warm as city roads
In summer
Open as a field
Full of wild flowers,
And as vulnerable.
Be careful child
Of our chosen dreams

I read this poem years ago, and at that time, I thought it was the nicest of all your works. And that opinion still holds. Now I have a space I can revisit to read it again and again at my liking.

Dear Louella
so wonderful to get a comment on my poetry. You are so discerning. In fact I believe are better writer of poetry than of those but have never had the courage to publish hundreds of poems mostly romantic and involving love so as to avoid embarrassing my family. At the age of 82 I must say I miss the moment to be courageous’
tell me do I know you, have we met before? I asked these questions because I’m touched not only for your taking the trouble of discovering my website but responding to two of my favourite pieces
tell me about yourself, your background and your family.
I lost my wife two years ago and when I get mails from total strangers I ask questions. I suppose mainly to deal with my loneliness. Funny thing that I should be saying that because with all the writing, management consultancy and constantly surrounded by people. But as I discovered long ago you may not be alone but you may be lonely.
Much love
George

Dear Mr. Menezes,
Honestly I feel like responding to many of your articles, but since I do it during work hours when I get some spare time I promptly wrote only in two.
We haven’t met but we could or we may someday if God wills it.
I love to read romantic and humourous stories and poems. Each ones life has its own sorrows and troubles so reading humourous articles and making people smile makes my day.
I liked and enjoyed reading the foreword you wrote in both the books written by Johhny Alves. Will you believe I always read articles written by you and Mr. Alves First whenever I pick up an Examiner or Catholic Magazine. In the days that HOMLIFE magazine existed you did write there.
I loved the article you wrote ” for my mother on mothers day”.
I too loved my mother immensely and worte a nice poem on her mortuary card.
I have gifted a few friends the books written by you and Mr.Alves and they loved it.
To end this comment or letter I must tell you Years ago my friend told me,” you can be in good company yet feel all alone, and your can be all alone and yet not feel lonely.
love
Louella

Dear George,
Anjali and I met around five or six years ago. I remember staying with her around the time she met Sven and in the mornings we would each read in our beds and PJs. I found your books on her bookshelf and would be laughing out loud. Anjali came over wondering what was so funny. I told her that I really enjoyed reading your life’s anecdotes. Our mornings would then be spent drinking tea, still in our PJs, and talking about our families. These are very treasured memories. Your poem ‘For Anjali’ is beautiful, thank you for sharing it.
Now Anjali is moving to Goa but friendship remains within us. Thank you for giving Anjali and me a very treasured memory that neither of us has ever forgotten or ever will.
Wishing you well and much love,
Laura

Thank you Laura
So good to hear from a dear friend of Anjali
Your loss is my gain
But Anjali has an uncanny knack of keeping in touch with her friends
Why dont you visit her in Goa after she moves
I get a lot of comments for my prose rarely for my verse, Romanticism is still alive !
Love
George
